You reap what you sow – or so we hope

We took a booking last week which for one reason or another was not an easy one to fill.  Either people weren’t free, couldn’t commit or simply didn’t fancy it.  Not an unusual problem for a Temps Desk but nevertheless frustrating.

So we rang one of our longest serving and most loyal Temps to see if they could help us out, despite the fact that she normally works in higher paid, higher skilled roles, she said yes.  No ifs, buts or maybes, just yes.  She didn’t want us to let down a client or lose a booking and in her words, ‘we’ve helped her out enough over the years and it’s a two way street’.  And she was right it is, or at least it should be.  But often, not just in business, but in life, our selfish heads take over and we’re only interested in what’s in it for us rather than what can I do to help?   The world would be a kinder place if we were all a bit more selfless and as once said to me, loyalty is a bit like friendship – if you want a friend then be one and if you want loyalty then give it.
